Music and technology

By the technology development, various studies were changed, for example, economics, politics, communication and entertainment. Technologies infiltrate our life and we cannot think of life without them. Today, I would like to talk about some changes in the way people listen to music and marketing in music industry.

When you trace the history of marketing, you know that it is very related with the development of the technology. For instance, CD and CD player began to be produced in 1982. After that, people got CD shops to get CDs shops and enjoyed listening to music by using CD player. Although after the personal computer was invented, the situation was changed. Portable music players, like the MP3 and iPod, were invented and people became able to listen to music everywhere. And people can get music not only by CD but also by music distribution services on Internet.  In other words, the way to listen to music became more personalized.

In addition, by the spread of video hosting services, for example, youtube and Hulu, people could listen to music “for free”. Moreover, the way to marketing was also changed. In addition to mass media, music magazines, radio, and TV, artists and music offices began to put a great deal of effort into advertisement by using social media. One of the characteristics of social media is anyone can send information easily. That is why minor artists got opportunities to advertise by themselves using less money. At the same time, the opportunities where listeners can know new artists were increased.

Now, CD sales are decreasing and the music industry flounders. In the situation, music streaming services, like Spotify and Pandra, are focused, because artists can get profit properly in these services.
As you can see, music marketing and music media are connected closely. The Music industry has to find ways to adopt technology developments to recover the present situation.
